Qatar ID (QID) Check and Renewal 2026: Grace Period, Fines and Metrash2
Qatar gives you a 90-day grace period, which is unusually generous, and then charges QAR 10 a day until you fix it.
Updated August 18, 2026
Qatar residence permit renewal is more forgiving than most of the region at the start and more punishing at the end, because unpaid fines block the renewal itself. Here is how to check your QID, when to renew, and exactly where the money starts.
How to check your QID status on the MOI portal
- Go to the Ministry of Interior portal at portal.moi.gov.qa.
- Open the Inquiries section.
- Choose the Residency Permits inquiry.
- Enter your QID number and complete the captcha.
How to check on Metrash2
Metrash2 is one of the only official channels to check or renew a QID. If you already have it installed and activated, it is the faster route, and it handles renewal as well as inquiry.
Renewal timing and the 90-day grace period
- You can renew up to 3 months before expiry.
- The MOI grace period is 90 days after expiry, during which no fine applies.
- Online renewals via Metrash2 or the MOI portal are often completed the same day or within a few working days, provided your documents and health insurance are in order.
Why health insurance is the usual hold-up
The most common reason a QID renewal stalls is not the application itself but valid health insurance not being in place. Confirm coverage is active before starting, or the submission will simply not clear.
