Emirates ID renewal is unusually forgiving at the front end and unusually expensive at the back end. You get a wide window to renew early, a short grace period after expiry, and then a daily fine. Knowing exactly where those boundaries sit is the whole game.
How to check your Emirates ID status
Checking is free and does not require a login. Use the ID Card Status service at icp.gov.ae, or the UAEICP app.

What the status stages mean
- Under Process — your application is being reviewed.
- Approved — the application has cleared.
- Card Printed — physical production is done.
- Dispatched — the card is with the courier.
- Ready for Collection — available at your collection point.
Renewal timing
- You can renew up to six months before your Emirates ID expires.
- You can also renew within 30 days after expiry without penalty.
- ICP applies a 30-day grace period after expiry.

- Card fee: AED 100 per year of validity

- Express (Fawri) service: AED 150 extra for 24-hour delivery
